On a recent day, I was driving along when I looked over at the mountains. It was the middle of winter and yet they were beautiful! There was no lush greenery or the autumn colors of the leaves, just the sun casting shadows. I never realized that shadows could be so beautiful.
That is what got me to thinking. There must be light for shadows to exist. Even a small amount of light creates shadows. Remember when we were kids and laughed at how much bigger we looked in our shadow?
In the Book of Psalms (Ps 91:1), David tells us “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty [Whose power no foe can withstand].”
What a great verse to meditate on! First things first. What is the 'secret place'? I believe it is a place we come to in our relationship with God. We all have our secret spots, be it a secluded place on the beach, under the tree in our yard, or just a room in our house. It doesn't really matter where that place is, its the place we go to be alone, to get away, to clear our minds. God's secret place is sort of like that. The difference is, we can go there anytime. The secret place of God is where you meet Him.
It is there we commune with our Father. We love, we learn, we follow. Imagine this, following God in such closeness that we are hidden in His shadow! Since we live in a world that has so much darkness, our light radiates from God. And if we stay so close to Him that we are in His shadow, our enemies won't even see us. All they will see is God's shadow. How awesome is that!
